Job Summary

The Project Designer, Interiors leads design efforts for small and medium-sized projects, guiding concept development, producing presentation materials, and ensuring the successful execution of design intent through construction documentation and administration. Working closely with Senior Designers and Design Principals, this role develops creative solutions, communicates design direction to clients and consultants, and oversees quality, coordination, and compliance throughout all project phases.

This position will be working out of our Sacramento, California office. This position is eligible for hybrid (office/remote) working arrangement and flexible working hours.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and presentation efforts for small–medium interior projects.
  • Develop concepts and ensure design intent through documentation and construction.
  • Prepare plans, elevations, details, and professional correspondence.
  • Review documents for quality, coordination, and code compliance.
  • Support budgeting through cost reviews and value analysis.
  • Oversee design changes and resolve construction document issues.
  • Guide material and systems selection.
  • Manage project schedules, staffing, budgets, and billing.
  • Prepare work plans, fee structures, and staffing projections.
  • Lead project teams and manage workflow and resources.
  • Contribute to proposals, interviews, and RFP development.
  • Assist with contract and fee negotiations.
  • Mentor and supervise staff as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with design standards and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and consultants to resolve conflicts.
  • Support financial performance, including accounts receivable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design.
  • 7+ years of architectural design experience.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, fees, and scope alignment.
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and task prioritization.
  • Ability to collaborate with architects, consultants, and agencies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to delegate effectively and professionally.
  • Proficient with design software, tools, and systems.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to maintain productive client and team relationships.

The salary range for this position is $85,065 - $127,281.

The actual salary offered for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidate’s qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
